The Directories tab, shown in Figure 4-11, is the place where you can import and export files and create a new folder. You can also choose a new folder (Create New Folder), which becomes available on the Photoshop Studio.

Photoshop Essentials
In a short introduction, we’ll show you how to edit images, how to create new high-quality images, and how to add new elements to your images.
You can use this tutorial to learn the basic operation of Photoshop Elements or to get an introduction for the first time.
Before you start with Elements, make sure that you’ve installed a recent version of Windows. The version of Windows we used for this tutorial is Windows 10 Pro. However, you can use this tutorial on Windows 7, 8, or Windows 10 too.
Step 1
Open Photoshop Elements for the first time.
Open the program and navigate to Edit > Preferences > General.
Look in the field “Language and Region”. Set your language and regional preferences.
The menu bar should be at the top of the screen. Click on it now to use the menu bar.
Step 2
Click on the second menu on the menu bar. It looks like an E with a little arrow. The menu that follows shows all the available editing modes. The other menu bar is still at the top.
Click on the “Transform” tab now to make the image edit modes available.
Step 3
Click on one of the available modes. We’ll show you how to edit images in Smart Object mode.
This mode allows us to edit the original image and at the same time see how the changes will look in the finished image.
Double click on the “Smile” icon in the “Skipping unwanted objects” submenu.
Step 4
You will see a dialog box similar to the one below. You can close this dialog by clicking on “OK” or “Cancel”.
In the dialog box, you can adjust the options.
Go ahead and adjust the Image Size and Image Aspect Ratios. Click on the third tab to configure color.
Step 5
Click on the icon to the left of the Brush menu.
Step 6
Now you have to select an image brush. You can use the default built-in image brush. But you can also use the paint bucket tool to paint a new shape.
To change the paint brush color, click on it and choose a color.
To resize the brush, use the handles of the selection tool

The Pencil Tool allows you to apply effects directly to your image. These brush effects, such as making an image sketchy or neon, can be used to perfect images.
The Lasso Tool creates lines and shapes, and can be used to select an area of an image.
The Spot Healing Brush enables you to correct problems, such as a minor blemish or small portion of a logo that was missed when scanning or photographing a document.
The Marquee Tool lets you to draw a box around a portion of an image that you wish to be edited. This tool is useful for drawing out the content of an image or working on the content of a layer.
Photoshop shortcuts
What are some of the common Photoshop shortcuts?
Copy:
The Copy shortcut creates a duplicate layer. To create a new layer of the same size as the current layer, you must first duplicate the image and then work on the new image.
Cut:
The Cut shortcut cuts the layer you are currently working on. The image’s background and layer underneath are not affected.
Deselect All:
The Deselect All shortcut deselects the selected area. You will not be able to work on the rest of the image.
Paste:
The Paste shortcut is used when you have copied or cut an area to another layer. This tool places the contents of the original layer into the new layer.
The Eraser Tool, which comes with Photoshop, is used to erase the effects created using the various brushes. This tool is useful for removing an unwanted or out-of-place layer or creating a new layer.
You can rotate, flip, or resize layers and work on multiple layers simultaneously.
You can also work on multiple layers simultaneously. You can use commands like Cut, Copy, and Paste to move objects from one layer to another layer.
You can create a new layer from the existing layer. You can always access the Layers panel and create new layers. The New Layer button can be found in the Layers panel.
To add a new layer in the background, click in the Layers panel and drag the desired area of the new layer to the desired location. To move an area from one layer to another, right-click the layer that contains the area and click Layer
Moved.
The Move tool in Photoshop enables you to move an area from one layer to another. You can use the Move tool to reposition the selected area in the same image

Iago Ayensu
Iago Ayensu is a Ugandan author, publisher and lecturer. His books are mainly about the Kalenjin people of the Arura tribe, but also include other peoples of Uganda such as the Lango people, the Nande people and the Ankole people.
Biography
Ayensu was born in Nyeri, Kenya, in 1957 and was brought up in Uganda. He studied at Kyambogo University in Kampala, where he graduated as a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in 1982. He then obtained a master’s degree in English Literature from Makerere University in 1986. He went on to get a diploma in Library and Information Science at Makerere University in 1993. He is currently a full professor at the same institution.
Ayensu has also lectured and taught in United States of America, at both the university and graduate level. For example, he has lectured at both Eastern Mennonite University and Eastern Mennonite College. He has also served as a visiting scholar at the University of Pretoria and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Ayensu has been married to the writer, Esther Byaruhanga Ayensu, since 1983, the couple has two children and three grandchildren.
Career
Ayensu works for Makerere University and is the Project Coordinator in the School of Environmental Studies and Regional Ecology at the university’s Faculty of Forestry. He has been involved in the publication of the biannual journal. T.E.A.R. (The Eastern African Review). Among his books are Bush Baby and The Making of a Mzungu.
Awards
In 2014, Ayensu won the Arthur Guinness Memorial Award for his book, Bush Baby. In 2015, he was nominated for the African Book Award.
