How does Photoshop work?
Photoshop is a raster graphics editor program developed by Adobe Systems. Adobe released Photoshop CS, version 1.0 in 1991. The latest version of Photoshop is Photoshop CC. It can be downloaded from Adobe’s website for a fee.
Photoshop adds, removes, and adjusts color, brightness, contrast, resolution, and pixels. You can cut out areas of an image, copy and paste from one image to another, even rotate or resize the image. Some familiar Photoshop features are layers, masking, liquefying, and path selection tools.
The editing capabilities of Photoshop are very similar to those of Adobe Illustrator. Photoshop does not have vector-based art tools like Illustrator does. Photoshop can place an image in 3D using file geometries, but those tools are more useful for digital designers than photographers, though some Photoshop artists have used the tool to convert a photograph into a three-dimensional object. Photoshop’s drawing tools are very similar to Illustrator’s, but it lacks some of its more precise tools like the ellipse and rectangular marquee, which are both in Illustrator.
Photoshop has become synonymous with digital manipulations and corruptions, such as: crop, retouch, edit, polish, or distort. Photoshop users often refer to these as «fixes,» in comparison to the effects «tools» like Photoshop’s brush or adjustment layers.
Adobe’s new Photoshop CC, also known as Photoshop X, is often confused with Adobe Lightroom, a photo management software, and Photoshop Express, an online editing tool.
Photoshop’s interface is often credited for being one of the most user-friendly and intuitive software interfaces. That said, when a photo has been manipulated with Photoshop, it becomes difficult to tell what has been changed. Photoshop CC has the button to show you what has been modified.
Photoshop has been used to enhance photos; transform them; and change the way they look.
People have used Photoshop to make many different kinds of images:

Adobe Photoshop is a powerful image-editing program. It is an industry standard. Like much software, its cost may discourage some from buying. Adobe Photoshop Elements is a cheaper version of Photoshop. But, it has all the benefits of Photoshop without the price.
This article includes a brief comparison of Photoshop Elements to Photoshop and a comparison of the two programs. This article also includes a brief explanation of the difference between Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and Photoshop, Lightroom.
Do you need Photoshop? Adobe Photoshop Elements
Adobe Photoshop Elements may be a good choice if you are considering the purchase of a graphics editing program but you are on a budget. It is a powerful graphics editor, and it does a great job of adjusting photos for printing and the web.
You can use this program for a few different reasons.
For Photo Manipulation
You can use Photoshop Elements to recreate a painting, add a watermark, adjust the lighting or adjust the color balance on your images. You can add a surreal effect, add a border, change the hue, adjust the contrast or add a vignette.
You can use Photoshop Elements to add or remove details, adjust or create a gradient, adjust the brightness or change the color of small areas. You can add a border, shadow, border, align, color, adjust the contrast or any of the other thousands of settings available in Photoshop Elements.
For Web Design
You can use Photoshop Elements to create web graphics that are optimized for printing, or web graphics that are optimized for the web. You can create beautiful graphics. You can edit a background or add a border. You can create a sky effect, add a border, add a drop shadow, change the hue, adjust the contrast or add a vignette. You can create a canvas, adjust the color, add a gradient, add a blur or create a texture.
You can work on images and apply a few different effects (e.g., wisp, spray, crackle). You can flip, mirror or rotate. You can add a spotlight, ghost or a reflection. You can add effects or create shadows.
You can apply a wavy or flaring effect. You can create a mosaic or starburst. You can rotate the image, cut it out, remove a portion of the image, create an eye, flip, resize or crop.
You can create a wallpaper (or frame) or create beautiful icons.

Is it true that $X\sim N(\mu,\sigma^2)$, where $\sigma$ is an unknown positive constant?
Let $X$ follow a $N(\mu,\sigma^2)$ distribution. Is it true that $X\sim N(\mu,\sigma^2)$, where $\sigma$ is an unknown positive constant?
$\sigma$ is fixed. You cannot assume the variance to be unknown, only the mean. The reason for this is that a variance that is scaled by a constant is independent of the location.

Sen. Rand Paul appeared today on the “Today” show and spoke about the need for the GOP to embrace a more radical fiscal and foreign policy. He also touched upon some of the various charges that the government is restricting people’s gun rights and marijuana use.
“I think the debate in Washington is that it’s either too tough on crime or too tough on the war on drugs” said Sen. Paul.
Washington isn’t tough enough on crime and Washington is not tough enough on the war on drugs, they’re both going to get more results the sooner the message is understood and acted upon.
After the Boston Marathon bombing Sen. Paul said that the US was now doing what a country that cared about it’s citizens would do. The most important thing that the US has to do is right the wrongs of being “too soft” and “too tough”.
“We ought to be looking at the budget to see where the waste is. We ought to be looking to see where everything’s not getting done” he said.
While I understand that many Americans are aware that the US has a problem spending in excess of all other nations in the world combined, I think the big picture message is lost, if it’s not clear in everything we do.
It’s not about a reduction in spending, we have to fix the broken system that we’ve created in an effort to keep people poor. Why would the US Government spend more money than other countries but keep the people under it in dire poverty.
I’ll be posting two new blogs later this week on the economy and America’s two party system. I may be

Lenore Druskaty is an American molecular biologist and biochemist. She is a professor at the University of Michigan.
Education and career
Druskaty received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1985. She earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California, San Francisco. Her dissertation was on the relationship between active site conformation and catalysis in the beta-ketoacyl-ACP synthase (FabH) and beta-ketoacyl-ACP reductase (FabG) enzymes.
After earning her PhD, Druskaty joined the faculty of the University of Michigan as an assistant professor. After a year at the University of Pennsylvania, she returned to the University of Michigan in 1991 as an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology. She was appointed to a full professorship in 2003 and was promoted to associate dean for faculty affairs in 2012.
Druskaty’s research concerns the regulation and assembly of complex, membrane-bound assemblies of proteins within the cytoplasm of bacterial cells. The goal of her work is to characterize the mechanisms that regulate the intracellular assembly of complex polymeric proteins. Her group employs a wide range of experimental techniques to examine the structure and function of these supramolecular assemblies.
Awards and honors
In 2013, Druskaty was named the inaugural recipient of the Michigan Markey Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research. She was also selected as a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology in 2009 and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2017.
