All images start out in a specific paper size and are rectangular. Photoshop offers several different canvas sizes; in most cases, you select the size you want to work with in the upper-right corner of the window. From there, you can make the image any size you like by clicking the little square tool (see Figure 8-3).

**Figure 8-3:** You can use the little square tool to make any image any size you like.

The middle of the window holds all the tools for altering an image. I cover this area in detail in Chapter 10. After you create the image you want to manipulate, you find a rectangular ruler that shows you the width and height of the image. Use this to make your selections when it’s time to create the layer.

When you’re finished, you can either save the image in the same format as your original or save it in a different format. You can also print the image in several sizes.

Photoshop Elements also includes the capability to resize and crop images, as well as a basic level of retouching.

The image preview is displayed in the Preview Bin.

Choose the image that you want to open and click Open.

You will now be able to open more files.

Save a batch of files to Photoshop Elements

When you have finished editing, you will need to save the changes. For example, if you want to edit a file and then place it in a folder, you can save the file and then copy it to a folder.

When you save a file, you will select the Save As option.

Select the type of file that you want to save. For this example, we will select PSD files.

If you want to save only the changes that you have made, the option Recalculate Blending Layers will not be available.

You must also make sure the Merge Visible option is checked. This option will cause the layer that you are working on to become visible.

Important: The Recalculate Blending Layers checkbox indicates whether the settings of a layer will be recalculated and will redisplay itself in the Layers panel. If you select this checkbox, the settings of the layer will be recalculated. If you don’t check it, the settings of the layer will remain as they were set at the last save.

If you want to save the layer, you can also choose the red “Save Layer As…” button in the Layers panel.

The Chinese gamblers playing World Cup pool

China is the ultimate winner. For years the PRC has been pouring massive sums into money-losing sports just to see glimmer of return on its investment and now, in World Cup soccer, the black gold of Xi Jinping’s Communist Party appears to be paying off.

During the past week, China’s seemingly bottomless coffers appeared to have quenched China’s thirst for soccer in a big way. Sure, money-chasing billionaires from other countries are still moving in, but it appears the majority of China’s new high rollers are taking notice of the winning streak the PRC is on.

Most recently, a group of 8 Chinese friends who were vacationing in Costa Rica and visiting a horse ranch in the Coto Woods paid to shave their horse’s hooves, glue a horseshoe to the back of his horse’s hoof, and had it painted.

Not all Chinese are big sports fans. The term “football” is a gutter-speak Chinese synonym for “cat-eating” and the PRC government is keeping the sport away from the public for decades. But a recent poll in a Chinese state newspaper shows that 76 percent of Chinese are now interested in the World Cup.

When the French reached the World Cup final, huge money-printing bets against the host team resulted in a French victory. The loss was so embarrassing for the French that even the Chinese news media didn’t dare cover it.

Since then, Chinese gamblers have been betting big – not only on French soccer teams – but on millions of dollars in bets of all kinds, from xiangqi (Chinese chess) to soccer.

Coincidentally, the Chinese professional sports clubs made the World Cup their 2012 championship and haven’t looked back. The Shanghai SIPG club advanced all the way to the final, but lost to Real Madrid, and the Guangzhou Evergrande, China’s most successful club in the West, has guaranteed itself a spot in next year’s final.

In both of those cases, the Guangzhou Evergrande and the Shanghai SIPG played for European teams that seemed to be a dangerous shot in the arm for the host Chinese club. They lost in both cases and it’s possible it’s going to take a few more defeats before the PRC

How to copy all files from C:\users and add it into another folder

My goal is to copy all files inside C:\users and add it into another folder. The files inside C:\users are always versioned, so I don’t want to overwrite the files that already exists.
I want to copy all the files on C:\users into some other folder. Let’s say I want to copy all the files on the path C:\users to another folder, and this new folder is called C:\Users
ew folder\
This is my code:
string[] files = Directory.GetFiles(@»C:\Users»);
foreach(string file in files)
string newFilePath = @»C:\Users» + Path.GetFileName(file);
File.Copy(file, newFilePath);

When I run this, I get the error message:

«A previous version of this file was used. You can specify the
original location using the DestinationVersion parameter.»

I would suggest rethinking your approach. You are trying to do a destructive file copy which won’t work and will get an error.
What you want to do is create a new directory and copy the files into the new directory. That means you have to read the file names from the first directory, get the files from the second directory, then move the files over.
string[] files = Directory.GetFiles(@»C:\Users»);
foreach(string file in files)
// This is the new file path.
string newFilePath = @»C:\Users» + Path.GetFileName(file);
// Remove the file name from the file path.
string newFilePath = @»C:\Users» + Path.GetFileName(file).Remove(0, 1);
// Get the files from the second directory and copy them to the new directory.
Directory.CreateDirectory(@»C:\Users» + Path.GetFileName(file).Remove(0, 1));
File.Copy(file, Path.Combine(@»C:\Users» + Path.GetFileName(file).Remove(0, 1), file));
